About Us
PBA Local 197 is a labor union comprised of Corrections Officers from the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office Jail Division located in Paterson, New Jersey. We are a local branch of the State PBA with a three hundred-plus member force.
The men and women in our union are dedicated to serving the residents of Passaic County by providing the public with the highest level of commitment that any law enforcement agency could offer while maintaining custody and control of county inmates legally committed to the county jail. At any given time, we provide security to an inmate population of approximately 1,000 in the Passaic County Jail.
Our local comprises the majority of the Sheriff’s specialized emergency services units and aids local police in their official duties. We also provide a significant law enforcement “shared service” to each municipality within Passaic County at no additional cost to the taxpayer.
Through our donations, we take an active role in the community by sponsoring dinners, organizations, sports leagues, charity events, and other benevolent causes. We also provide scholarship funds to those in pursuit of a college education. No task is too small and no request for a charitable donation goes unnoticed.
We remain a non-profit organization which seeks to represent the community as a whole by supporting causes that are near and dear to many people. It has, and always will be, in our best interest to give back to the community any way that we can either through volunteering our time for special needs or helping those with worthy causes.
Our members appreciate the overwhelming support and generosity that we receive from the county residents and other local entities and individuals alike.
